Peeps Class

Service Description

Our Peeps class addresses the broadening interests of the older child and plants the seeds of knowledge needed to move on to higher education. Class time becomes more structured and begins to include collaborative projects. Circle time includes a variety of lessons focusing on the children’s current interests. Shelf materials are introduced to expand on letter and number recognition along with science and world knowledge. Through a blend of Montessori and Reggio Emilio philosophies the children are gently introduced to academics as their interest is piqued through both group projects and individual one-on-one time with the teacher. We follow the children’s interests and expand on them. For example- if the class becomes interested in earthworms then the teacher’s job is to help the children learn as much as possible about earthworms for as long as their interest lasts. We’ll find out what they eat, where they live, their lifecycle, how they move through the dirt. We’ll observe them in their natural habitat and set up a worm bin together. While this is happening, academic learning is also happening by us reading books about worms together, making posters together, making graphs of how many worms we have and so on. Learning happens organically here!
